How to crop a photo for printing
- Select an image from your device. JPEG, PNG, and WebP are supported.
- Choose your desired print dimensions and orientation, or enter a custom size.
- Drag the photo to bring the subject into the crop frame. Zoom in if needed.
- Download the cropped JPEG and print it at your selected physical size.
Does cropping improve photo quality?
Not by itself. Cropping removes image information, and exporting at 300 PPI does not create missing detail. The tool warns you if your source image has fewer pixels than the requested output. Check your printer settings to ensure it uses the correct print size and does not apply additional cropping.
What sizes should I choose?
A 4×6 print has a 2:3 aspect ratio; 5×7 has a 5:7 ratio; and 8×10 has a 4:5 ratio. Cropping a 4:3 phone photo to 4×6 may remove content from the sides or top and bottom. For a 4×6 at 300 PPI, the output is 1200×1800 pixels in portrait orientation. For an 8×10 at 300 PPI, it is 2400×3000 pixels.
Privacy and limitations
Crop processing takes place within your browser. The tool does not upload the selected photo to our server. It exports JPEG; any transparency in PNG or WebP files is rendered over white. Metadata such as EXIF is not retained. Some browsers may use significant memory for very large images, and color appearance can vary by printer and monitor.
